Then all of a sudden when you tried to unlock it the pull lever would not open the chest. So I decided to see how safe it was and hit in between the plastic mechanism and the solid part of the safe. When I did this the whole plastic piece came right out. So hopefully it would have protected from water and fire if this is all I had to do to get in it.

Like other reviews you'll find online, the lock is cheap and the rubber seal can easily come off. If you want a safe to protect against theft, in addition to water and fire, I recommend buying an actual safe that can be bolted to the ground. I only recommend this safe to protect against fire and water. Whether it does remains to be seen.

There are no instructions for how to mount this to the floor. The Model and Serial Number are not on the back of the User Manual as the online registration instructions said the would be, so I had to guess at the numbers.

The safe is just what I wanted: a simple and safe way to store a small number of important documents and protect them from fire and water damage. We have social security cards, passports, birth certs, marriage cert, and key pages from our trust document in there. I saw an online review complaining about it not being safe from burglars. That's not the point though: it's meant for safety from fire and water. And for that, it appears to do the job well. I actually prefer something that doesn't look like it's containing valuables! :-) Overall, I'm very happy with the product so far. Hopefully, we won't have to use it. One other point: I didn't realize until after I had purchased it that we get a free replacement if it's damaged in a fire, if you have registered it. So, we promptly registered it... That was a nice surprise!
